Ron Mueck, Spooning Couple, 2005

Born to German toymakers and trained at Jim Henson's Creature Shop, Ron Mueck began his career creating models for films, including Labyrinth. Turning his hand to fine art, Mueck's career took off when his mother-in-law, Paula Rego, introduced him to Charles Saatchi, who took an instant liking to his hyperrealist sculptures of human beings.

Shows at the Royal Academy, Millennium Dome and Venice Biennale followed, and in 1999 Mueck was appointed Associate Artist at the National Gallery. This exhibition brings together his work from the Artist Rooms collection.
