Wild animals have been recreated as robots in order to reveal their inner workings.

Robot platypus

Creatures from across the animal kingdom have been recreated in machine form, from flies and bats to grasshoppers and giraffes, and even a duck-billed platypus.

Comprised of everyday parts – tubes, hinges and fly-swatters among them – the animal robots offer a unique insight into how their real life counterparts function; for example how they see, eat, hunt or hide.

Interactive exhibits mean visitors can try their hand at jet-propelled squid racing, shoot a chameleon’s ‘tongue-gun’ and design their own robot creature.
