This exhibition explores how over 30 contemporary artists have responded to light.

Katie Paterson, Totality, 2016

Artists use light as both a material and as a subject. In this exhibition drawn from the Arts Council Collection, it serves as a means of illumination, as a pure sculptural material and as source of energy.

Featured are examples of paintings, sculpture, video, photography, drawing and installation, produced by the likes of David Batchelor, Gary Hume, Anish Kapoor, LS Lowry, Julian Opie, Rachel Whiteread and others.
