George Shaw: My Back to Nature
13 January – 11 March 2017
A display of the work the Turner Prize nominee created during his two years as associate artist at the National Gallery.
Inspired by the woodland themes within the National Gallery's collection, Shaw created this body of work reflecting on his own experiences with nature. He describes walking in the forest near his hometown as a teenager, with the feeling that something out of the ordinary could happen at any time there, away from the supervision of adults'.
What is particularly interesting about his approach is his choice of Humbrol enamel paint, typically used to colour model trains and aeroplanes.
