Fiona Banner: Buoys Boys

De La Warr Pavilion

24 September 2016 – 8 January 2017

The artist's witty sculptures explore her enduring fascination with language.

Best known for her giant sculptural punctuation marks, British artist Fiona Banner has an ongoing interest in language and its limitations. For this display she breathes new meaning into her famed punctuation series by recreating the works as large inflatables.

With the English Channel as their backdrop, they appear as floating buoys on the water. Banner sees a dark beauty in the channel; the means for the only invasion of Britain in 1066, a key route for migrants crossing today, and the physical separation between the UK and mainland Europe.
