Pre-Raphaelites on Paper: Victorian Drawings from the Lanigan Collection

The only UK showing of over 100 British master drawings from a collection in Canada.

Leighton House Museum has secured the loan of yet another important Pre-Raphaelite collection for display within its opulent Victorian interiors, this time a group of around 100 drawings by eminent artists such as Millais, Rossetti, Holman-Hunt, Watts, Burne-Jones and Waterhouse.

Ranging from early preparatory sketches to highly finished masterpieces, the works were amassed by Dennis Lanigan, an orthognathic dentist from Saskatoon in Saskatchewan. Lanigan recently gifted the set to the National Gallery of Canada and it is being shown here in London before it returns to its new home.

The museum's own collection has been cleared away to allow the drawings the full spread of the 19th century mansion. Highlights include several works by Frederic Leighton – the Victorian artist and Royal Academy president who lived at the property and decorated in its stunning Arabic style.
