Treasures: Adventures in Archaeology
26 January – 30 October 2016
Comparing the stories of real life archaeologists with those of their fictional counterparts.
Discoveries made by Giovanni Belzoni, Flinders Petrie, and Adela Breton are brought together with thematic material from fiction and film in order to reveal how real life archaeological exploits have influenced popular culture.
Pre-Columbian gold, ancient Greek artefacts and finds from early Egyptian expeditions are shown alongside the jacket, hat and whip from Indiana Jones, while a 19th century crystal skull from the Musee du Quai Branly is united with the crystal skull from the George Lucas production.
