Kurt Jackson: Place
10 Oct 2015 – 3 Jan 2016
A series of works Jackson has made in collaboration with contemporary writers which respond to 33 British locations, from a Welsh estuary to Spaghetti Junction.
The project began with the artist asking each writer to contribute text about their favourite location in Britain. After receiving the submissions he then visited each place that had been named to create a series of artworks to complement the prose. The exhibition brings together the writers' texts with Jackson's artistic responses.
Jackson said the idea came from a desire to turn his normal methods 'upside down... to relinquish control and to funnel new sources into [his] working practices'. He said: 'For this project, I decided to ask other people for their own choice of a preferred location, with them choosing where to send me to make work at their own personal place within Britain'.
Featured places include the Isle of Lewis, Worthy Farm, Paddington Station, Bristol docks and a golf course.
