Sons and Daughters of the Soil

To coincide with 2015: United Nations International Year of Soils, this exhibition explores the many ways in which soil was represented by the artists of the Newlyn School.

Stanhope Forbes, Fred Hall, Harold Harvey, Edwin Harris and Walter Langley are among the artists who show their subjects working skillfully with the earth – such as in farms or gardens.

Meanwhile a selection of Wedgwood creamware, Bristol porcelain and Leach Pottery is used to demonstrate how Cornish clay was utilised by the pioneers of ceramic production.
