Highlights from York Art Gallery’s collection go on display in Harrogate as part of a six-venue tour taking place during the venue's refurbishment.
Spanning 600 years of art, the exhibition includes Italian renaissance paintings, 18th century portraits and masterpieces from the Victorian era, as well as notable works from the last 100 years.
The overarching nature of the show affords some interesting parallels; so while Dutch landscapes contrast with Walter Sickert's view of Venice and Paul Nash's Winter Sea, a portrait by Hogarth is complemented by E.M. Ward's later depiction of the painter’s studio. Works by Allan Ramsay, William Etty, L.S. Lowry and David Hockney also feature in the 33 piece collection.
