Gustav Metzger: Lift Off!

Kettle's Yard

24 May – 31 August 2014

Exploring Metzger’s creative experimentation and activism between the late 1950s and early 1970s.

Gustav Metzger

Bringing together archive, film, sculpture and installations, this exhibition focuses on Metzger’s auto-creative work – the alter ego of his better-known auto-destructive practice. It includes landmark piece Liquid Crystal Environment, as well as works that Metzger first made in a university laboratory in Swansea in 1969, and which have not been seen since. Specially for this exhibition, the artist has created new variations of these, using air, water and heat.

Also on display, a brand new series of photographic works made by Metzger while working with Lizzie Fisher in Cambridge in May 2014.
