Julian Opie: Collected Works

Continuing a series of exhibitions at the Holburne exploring artists' private collections.

Julian Opie's own works are brought together with pieces from his private art collection in order to explore the connection between the two.

During the course of his career Opie has collected a wide range of art, from Japanese prints and landscapes to 17th and 18th century paintings - such as those by Cornelius Johnson - as well as an Egyptian funerary mask and other pieces of ancient sculpture.

Here, we see how his interests as a collector have influenced his contemporary practice, for example, his preoccupation with historical traditions, such as portraiture and landscape.
