Richard Long: Prints 1970-2013

Richard Long, ROSIN DUBH – A Slow Air, 1976

Richard Long was part of a group of 'land artists' who sought to go beyond the simple observation of nature and instead express something of the experience of journeying through it. He began producing sculptures in-situ on walks through the landscape, gathering materials such as stones, pebbles and driftwood and assembling them into circles, lines and eclipses. Over his career, this work has taken him across the expanses of Nepal, Africa, Mexico and Bolivia, as well as into remote areas of Britain. He documents these experiences in photographs, wall drawings and printed statements.

This exhibition brings together the complete set of the artist's prints made over a 40-year period. They are joined by a new drawing produced especially for the gallery’s 26 metre-long wall and a floor sculpture that responds to the architecture of the space.

Don't miss

A new print, NO FOOTPRINTS, is on display for the first time. It is based on a ten-day walk in the Ellesworth Mountains in Antartica in December 2012 when it was not possible for the artist to leave behind the any footprints at all in the frozen ice masses.

New Art Gallery Walsall is offering a special price on their limited-edition run of NO FOOTPRINTS. Buy a print for just £250 including postage and packing (standard price: £295). To buy a print, simply call 01922 654400 and quote the code TP1989.
