Exploring the history of the collection and the circumstances surrounding its development.

Dating between the First World War and the 1960s, the Jerwood Collection includes a range of paintings and prints by some of Britain's most accomplished artists, such as Sir Stanley Spencer, L.S Lowry, Walter Sickert and Augustus John.

Also featured are a selection of contemporary works, with winners of the Jerwood Painting Prize, Craigie Aitchison and Prunella Clough, represented. This is the most extensive display of the collection since the gallery first opened.

Don't miss

A number of key works have never been on public display at the gallery before. This includes long-term a series of maquettes by artists Sir Jacob Epstein, Dame Elisabeth Frink and Henry Moore.
