Jeremy Deller Curates All That is Solid Melts into Air

Artist of the moment, Jeremy Deller curates a show examining the roots of working-class musical culture from nineteenth-century industrial folk to 1970s glam rock.
What could be better than Jeremy Deller’s left-of-centre take on the history of British pop music? Using films, photographs and objects, the artist introduces a cast of maverick working class heroes who captured the Zeitgeist of British rock.
As always with Deller, this exhibition is a moveable feast. He remains as ever, a social cartographer, and as a result this touring exhibition, which begins in Manchester, will evolve as more material emerges.
There is a wonderful photograph of the pro glam wrestler Adrian Street, who was the subject of a documentary by Jeremy Deller. Here he poses next to his coal-mining father down a mineshaft, dressed outlandishly in spandex, glitter cape and false eyelashes.
