Dana Schutz

The first UK show of one of America's most acclaimed young contemporary artists.

A strange array of characters peer out from Dana Schutz's canvases. An auto cannibal chomping at his own face, a man spliced with parts of machine, a ghostly portrait of a drooling albino woman, Frank 'the last inhabitant on earth'; what Schutz depicts is sometimes awkward, sometimes absurd, but always utterly compelling.

In a display of around 20 paintings and drawings, including several new works, the artist tackles an array of complex issues, from hopelessness to loss of control to anti-social activity, edged by her characteristically dark sense of humour.

What is perhaps most striking about Schutz, is her ability to combine conventional artistic mediums with the most unconventional of subject matter, all of which is played out in vivid high definition colour.
