Afro Supa Hero

In honour of Black History Month in October, the artist celebrates pop cultural heroes and heroines of the African diaspora who inspired him as a child.

Born in East Sheen in southwest London in the 1960s, artist Jon Daniel found positive black role models in the West Indian culture of his family and the African-American culture of the US.

Here he pays tribute to the heroes that inspired his childhood, from fictional characters such as Meteor Man, Mr T and Lieutenant Uhura, as well as real-life icons Muhammad Ali, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela.

Also on show are games, and comics including Black Lightning, The Falcon and  special edition of Lobo, which features the first ever leading African American character.
