Nostalgic and naive paintings inspired by the modernisation of the fishing industry in Cornwall.

Alfred Wallis, Death ship, 1941-42

This show comprises nearly 100 works from Kettle’s Yard's holdings of Alfred Wallis. The painter took up art late in life after a long career as a mariner and fisherman, painting in order to ease his grief after the death of his wife.

He was discovered by Ben Nicholson and Christopher Wood in the late 1920s, and in time Jim Ede, the founder of Kettle's Yard, became one of his greatest collectors.
