Abbot Hall will be showcasing some of the finest examples of modern and contemporary British art acquired over its 50-year history.
The Gallery's summer exhibition supplements this core collection with loans from Tate, the National Galleries of Scotland and the Arts Council Collection to present a picture of the major developments in British paintings over the past half century. The list of artists on display reads like a who's who of British art: Michael Andrews, Frank Auerbach, Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Tony Bevan, Paula Rego, David Hockney. The show also looks forward to the next 50 years, with work by emerging and established painters including Turner Prize nominee George Shaw, President of the Royal Academy Christopher Le Brun, Robert Priseman, Simon Carter, and Monica Metsers among others.
