Joseph Beuys, Pregnant Woman with Swan, 1959

A major ongoing display devoted to Joseph Beuys features works from the early 1980s, many of which formed part of an exhibition entitled Zeitgeist held in 1982 at the Martin-Gropius Bau, Berlin. There, Beuys installed a huge mound of clay and surrounded it with sculptures as well as furniture, tools and other items taken from his studio. He later cast elements to create the installation Lightning with Stag in its Glare. This display brings together this monumental work, alongside major pieces from ARTIST ROOMS which also featured in the 1982 show.ARTIST ROOMSis the outstanding collection of post-war and contemporary art assembled by the art collector Anthony d'Offay and part-gifted to the nation in 2008 with support from the Art Fund, the National Heritage Memorial Fund and the Scottish Government. For more information visit www.museumwales.ac.uk or call 029 2039 7951
