Time Regained, is a major London showing from leading artist-goldsmith Dr Kevin Coates.
The theme of the exhibition is one of Coates's enduring preoccupations " the connection of Time with Art and Humanity, and our response to the artefacts left by others. Inspired directly by a dozen of the treasures from the Wallace Collection, the exhibition aims to refresh our way of looking at objects and stimulates the imagination.A distinguished Liveryman of the Goldsmiths' Company, Coates has created a number of significant new works, combining the mysteries of the goldsmith, painter, sculptor, musician, geometer, and scholar. Using a diverse range of Wallace Collection pieces for inspiration including Gothic armour, Maiolica and paintings by Rembrandt, Canaletto and Van Loo, Coates has created entirely new works using his skills as a contemporary goldsmith.
…Coates's brand new works created for the show including sculpture for the table, and painted multi-media wall-pieces incorporating detachable jewels. Accompanying the new works will be loans reflecting the breadth of Coates's artistry such as the iconic Amity Cup, commissioned by the Goldsmiths' Company; Lichfield Cathedral's St. Chad Loving cup and the now famous Entry of the Queen of the Night Tiara, voted most popular object in the Jewellery Moves exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.Watch Nel Romano's film, made to accompany the exhibition.
