This exhibition is part of the 2011 tour of ARTIST ROOMS " the outstanding collection of post-war and contemporary art assembled by the art collector Anthony d'Offay and part-gifted to the nation in 2008 with support from the National Heritage Memorial Fund, the Art Fund and the Scottish Government.

ARTIST ROOMS is owned jointly by Tate and the National Galleries of Scotland and is being shared with museums and galleries throughout the UK thanks to the support of the Art Fund and the Scottish Government.The Highland Touring Circuit including Swanson Gallery, Thurso; Timespan, Helmsdale; and Inverness Museum and Art Gallery will be the first tour within the ARTIST ROOMS touring programme, facilitated by The Highland Council. This circuit will enable the work of American artist Ed Ruscha to reach audiences across the Scottish Highlands, building on existing partnerships from Lochaber to Caithness.Since the 1960s, Ruscha has drawn on advertising slogans, pithy phrases and literary texts to explore American popular culture, particularly that of Hollywood and the West Coast.
