Dennis Severs' House 7pm SOLD OUT

  • 18 Folgate Street |
  • Private View |
  • Tuesday 5 December 2017 - 19:00 until 19:45

This private visit to the 18th-century house in Spitalfields, adorned in its Christmas decoration and lit by fire and candlelight, offers an unforgettable sensory experience. More than just a time capsule, the house is an intimate and immersive recreation of the lives of a family of Huguenot silk weavers from 1724 to the early 1900s. Follow their fortunes through the generations as the sights, smells and sounds of the house take you into their lives.

It was Dennis Severs’ intention that you enter his house as if you have passed through the surface of a painting, exploring with your senses and imagination a meticulously crafted world. There are no labels or explanations, but the curatorial staff will give a short introduction on arrival and answer questions at the end.

Please note that access to all floors is by a narrow staircase.

This event has been organised by the London Events Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
