Andrew Marr and A Short Book about Painting
- Royal Over-Seas League |
- Talk |
- Wednesday 22 November 2017 - 18:30 until 20:00
One of our greatest cultural commentators, renowned broadcaster Andrew Marr, explores the creative process with wit, humility and razor-sharp insight. He tackles the subject of painting asking how does the artist create a masterpiece; what constitutes good and bad technique, and how important is the imagination.
Following a serious stroke in 2013 that left him partially paralysed, Marr struggled with the physical rigours of painting using oils. This led to his wrestling with some of the fundamental questions about painting – and to interrogate himself about brush strokes, colour balance, line and texture. Using historical examples of techniques from classical artists to the present day, as well as his own works of art to assert his point, Andrew Marr discusses the fascinating creative process.
There will be a book-signing and wine reception following the talk.
