John Piper is considered to be one of the most significant British artists of the 20th century. The new gallery provides the first permanent home for Piper’s work in the UK and features previously unseen work from private collections, the Piper family, as well as loans from the V&A, Tate and the Arts Council. Highlights of the exhibition include Brittany Beach with Lighthouse, 1961, an abstract collage, Sketch, an abstract piece, and the set model for Benjamin Britten’s 1947 production of “The Rape of Lucretia”. The group will be seated in David Chipperfield’s award winning building for the introductory illustrated talk by Eloise Chapman, Head of Collections and Exhibitions, before the guided tour.
Private lunch (self-funded) for Art Fund guests at 12.30pm. Please make all bookings directly with the Museum for the two-course lunch.
This event has been organised by the Oxfordshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
