  • Friday, 27 October 2017 - 10:15 until 15:30

Dr Geri Parlby, art historian and international freelance lecturer, conducts a study day in the restored Totnes Cinema. In three sessions, she looks in depth at the birth of the Silver Screen and the art that surrounded it: how the motion picture industry first developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and how it was inspired by and in turn inspired some of the greatest artists of the early 20th century.

Totnes Cinema, once the quirky and much-loved Romany, is gradually being brought back to its former glory through a social enterprise project.

Cold drinks and snacks will be provided between the morning sessions. There are several cafes on the High Street  for morning tea or coffee before the lecture and a wide choice of places for lunch.

Friday is also market day in Totnes.

This event has been organised by the Devon Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
