Like mother like son: the lives and work of Suzanne Valadon and Maurice Utrillo
- Menuhin Hall |
- Lecture |
- Thursday, 19 October 2017 - 10:00 until 12:00
Seamstress, acrobat and artist's model, Suzanne Valadon posed for Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec and Puvis de Chavannes. Encouraged by Degas, Suzanne Valadon became a painter. Her son, Utrillo was born when she was 18 of an unknown father. He led an unconventional and deeply troubled life from which he sought escape in drink and his work. The backdrop of their turbulent relationship was Montmartre, the centre of artistic life in Paris.
