Historic Bury St Edmunds - sold out

  • Meet at Pilgrims' Kitchen (off the Cathedral cloister) |
  • Guided Tour |
  • Wednesday, 7 June 2017 - 10:15 until 16:00

Start with a tour of the cathedral and ancient library guided by the librarian, Stephen Dart. Then take a short walk to the parish church of St. Mary’s (the burial place of Henry VIII’s sister Mary, Queen of France) where church historian Clive Paine will introduce its history and architecture. Simon Jenkins considers St Mary’s to have one of the largest and most exhilarating naves in the county.

Lunch will be in the cathedral, before walking a third of a mile to the museum housed in the 12th century Moyse’s Hall.  Alex McWhirter, Curator, will talk about the fascinating Gershom Parkington clock collection. This excellent museum also includes fine art by local artists Mary Beale and Sybil Andrews and local history.

This event has been organised by the Cambridgeshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
