Dr Tim Connor leads the group to Christchurch and its great church. Norman in origin, made a Priory in 1150 with its notable early English north transcept and its chancel reredos, c1350, one of the most monumental survivals of decorative sculpture in England, and much else.
In the afternoon, a complete change, a trio of Victorian churches between Bournemouth and Poole and of very different styles. St Alshelm in Branksome, St Peter in Parkstone, and also in Parkstone St Osmund by Prior.
Meet at Christchurch for a pub or picnic lunch.
This event has been organised by the Dorset Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
