- Wednesday, 23 November 2016 - 18:15 until 20:00
Dr Letizia Treves, Curator of Italian and Spanish Art 1600- 1800 at the National Gallery and the organiser of the forthcoming exhibition Beyond Caravaggio, will give a behind-the-scenes talk on this major exhibition which is the first in the UK to explore the impact of Caravaggio’s work on the art of his contemporaries and followers. Artists as diverse as Gentileschi, Valentin and van Honthorst were drawn to Caravaggio’s strikingly original paintings. Each artist absorbed different aspects of his work and helped propagate his style across Europe giving rise to the international movement known as Caravaggism. The lecture will be followed by a wine and canapé reception.
This event has been organised by the York & East Yorkshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
£20 (includes a wine and canapé reception)
