Dorothy Nott, who has made a special study of the subject, will discuss the difficulties encountered by women artists in the 19th century in establishing their status and gaining recognition. Among the artists considered will be Elizabeth Butler, Rosa Bonheur, Barbara Bodichon and Joanna Mary Boyce Wells. The lecture will be preceded by a two course lunch in the Bedern, the medieval hall of the Vicars Choral of York Minster.
This event has been organised by the York & East Yorkshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
