The Camino - The medieval pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela
- Headlam Hall Hotel |
- Lecture |
- Monday, 7 November 2016 - 10:30 until 14:30
The pilgrimage in the medieval world combined piety and tourism bringing considerable wealth to the pilgrimage sites. A top destination was Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, north-west Spain, the presumed burial site of St James the Apostle. Sophie Weston, an authority on medieval churches, will lecture on some of the architectural treasures that grace the pilgrimage route.
This annual event will take place in Headlam Hall, built by Henry Birkbeck and his wife Anne at the turn of the 17th century.
There will be a raffle and Art Fund Christmas cards for sale.
This event has been organised by the Durham and Cleveland Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
£35 (includes coffee/tea on arrival, two course lunch and glass of wine)
