Renaissance Women, by Sian Walters

- Thursday, 20 October 2016 - 15:00 until 16:00
When we study the vast range of works of art produced during the 16th century nearly all seem to have been paid for, commissioned and created by men. Yet in more recent years historians have found more evidence of women acting independently. Walters asks what kind of women were able commission works of art; how active were female painters during the period; and what these depictions of women can tell us about their place in society.
