Dr Mark Westgarth is lecturer in Art History and Museum Studies at the University of Leeds. He will give an illustrated talk entitled The Old Curiosity Shop.
By the 1850's London had become the primary location in Europe as a market for antiques and curiosities. The London trade, the dealers and their antique curiosity shops were an important link to the supply of authentic historical objects. Within London, Wardour Street attracted scores of dealers and a number of significant collectors, such as Ralph Bernal (c1783-1854).
This event has been organised by the North Yorkshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
£18 (includes drinks and canapes at Aldborough Manor)
