Portrait miniatures, the smallest and most intimate type of portrait, were painted from the early 16th century through to the 19th century. Their purpose was often secretive in nature. Small enough to hide, portrait miniatures were exchanged as gifts between lovers or clandestinely worn to show political support. After an introduction to his spectacular gallery by the art dealer  and specialist Philip Mould, consultant Emma Rutherford will discuss how miniatures were instrumental in private and public lives.

This event has been organised by the London Events Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
