Fakes and forgeries
- The Menuhin Hall |
- Lecture |
- Wednesday, 21 September 2016 - 10:00 until 12:00
Fakes and forgeries have caused major problems for the art world since antiquity. David Bellingham, a Sotheby’s expert, will first of all discuss how to define a ‘fake’ and a ‘forgery’ and proceed to examine some famous cases from the history of art. He will also trace recent shifts in the art historical reception of the reproduction of art from different periods, as well as the fashion for the deliberate replication of visual intellectual property by artists in the postmodern world.
This event can be booked from August 2016.
This event has been organised by the Surrey Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
