Lecture and tour of Skinners Hall
- The Skinners Company |
- Talk and Tour |
- Monday 5 September 2016 - 13:30
A 90 minute tour given by the Beadle of The Skinners' Company.
Like many other livery companies, The Skinners’ Company developed from a medieval trade guild whose members were involved in a particular trade or craft - in this case furs. The Beadle will give a potted history of the company, talk about some of its more famous members, its role through the medieval period and explain how it gained its wealth. He will also explain its role today whilst guiding the group through Skinners' Hall which dates from 1670 and is a Grade I listed building rich in history and tradition, being built immediately after the Great Fire of London.
The hall is beautifully furbished with great style and elegance, including impressive courtyards inspired by Chelsea Flower Show gold medal winners Tommaso del Buono and Paul Gazerwitz.
Meet for coffee/tea 1.30pm with the tour starting at 2.30pm.
This event has been organised by the Kent Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
