  • Talk and Tour |
  • Tuesday 24 May 2016 - 10:30 until 16:00

St John the Evangelist in Hoylandswaine is a small Victorian church with an East Window designed by Edward Burne-Jones and manufactured by the William Morris Company.  The Ascendancy of Christ, painted by John Roddam Spencer Stanhope (1829-1908), was painted over in the early 1960s and was uncovered and conserved in 2014. A short talk will be given by the Church Warden.

Tea and coffee will be served in the Church of All Saints, Silkstone, a 12th century Grade 1 building, known as The Minster of the Moors, boasting interesting rood screen, gargoyles, Victorian box pews and stained glass.

After lunch visit Canon Hall to see Spencer Stanhope paintings, Moorcroft pottery and a walled garden.

This event has been organised by the South Yorkshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
