Private art tour - Hereford Cathedral

Canon Sandy Elliot, a Lay Member of Chapter, accompanied by the Church Warden, will talk on the history and art of the Cathedral including the Shrines of St Thomas of Hereford and St Ethelbert, the John Piper tapestries and the stained glass windows by Tom Denny in the Audley Chapel which celebrates the life of the mystic Thomas Traherne.  Stonework by Richard Kindersly, bronze roundels by Ivan Williams and a mosaic designed by Sandy Elliott will also be explored. 

In the afternoon Charlotte Berry, Archivist will show and talk on the Mappa Mundi, one of the world's unique medieval treasures, the Chained Library and the Magna Carta. Hereford Cathedral holds the finest surviving 1217 Charter and also the sole surviving copy of King John's Writ.

Lunch is served in the College Hall and tea in the Dean's garden, normally closed to the public.

This event has been organised by the Shropshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
