This Autumn's series of lectures looks at portraiture through the ages.

Goya’s reappraisal as a portraitist is the theme of the National Gallery exhibition curated by Dr Xavier Bray this autumn. He will trace Goya’s career from the court of Charles III in Madrid and his appointment as Charles IV’s First Court Painter; through the difficult period under Joseph Bonaparte, and his final years in France. Goya’s approach to painting human likeness developed throughout his career, offering unconventional portrait types and breaking traditional boundaries.
