Rhyme around the World

The event begins at 10.30am with coffee, followed by a short illustrated talk on Harold Jones about whom it is said “among artists who specialise in books for children, Harold Jones is pre-eminent ….. no artist has understood more successfully than he that a picture has little meaning for a child if he cannot step inside it”.
Acquired by Seven Stories with help of the Art Fund, and one of the definitive collections of nursery rhymes including many watercolours and ink drawings, the 1954 picture book 'Lavender's Blue' was a landmark in the history of children's illustration.
Following this there will be a guided tour of the Rhyme around the World exhibition, which invites people to step straight into their favourite nursery rhymes and discover new ones from around the world, exploring how stories, song and rhyme are shared across generations and continents.
This event has been organised by the Northumberland Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
