The group will be visiting the delightful Wiston House and it's gardens located near Steyning, West Sussex. The house is not normally open to the public except through an arranged event.

The Wiston Estate was established at the time of the Norman Conquest, it has changed hands over the years, but has been in ownership of the Goring family since 1743. It has a wealth of art works to see. The visit will be accompanied by Dr Janet Pennington, the archivist for the family and estate who will give a brief introduction to Wiston and then walk around with the group, helping to put the paintings and art works into their correct historical context.

Since 1951 Wiston House has been the home of Wilton Park, a government agency established immediately after the Second World War and operating under the umbrella of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, which is dedicated to promoting international dialogue around the challenges of conflict and peace. As a result Wiston has, hanging within it's walls, works from the Government Art Collection - once again paintings that are not normally available to the general public

Finally, the day will conclude with a cream tea which can be taken on the lawned terrace overlooking the parkland and the South Downs. For those who wish to do so there will also be the opportunity to take an unguided stroll around the gardens.

This event has been organised by the Sussex Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
