Designed by Sir Christopher Wren, Marlborough House was built in 1711 for Sarah Churchill as the town house of the Dukes of Marlborough. Now a Royal Palace, home to the Commonwealth Secretariat, three Dowager Queens and three Princes of Wales have lived here.
This guided tour includes the Fine Rooms, containing exquisite murals, tapestries, paintings and sculptures which relay the history of the building and its occupants, the gardens, which retain their 18th century layout of gravel paths and grass lawns, as well as Queen Mary’s thatched revolving summer house and Queen Alexandra’s Royal pet cemetery.
Please note the possibility that the date of the tour may have to be changed if the rooms are required for official meetings of the Commonwealth Secretariat. Should this occur, we are promised at least one month's notice.
This event has been organised by the London Events Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
