Chiswick House is the first and one of the finest examples of neo-Palladian design in England. It was created by the third Earl of Burlington, as a stunning homage to the work of the Renaissance architect Palladio - he had been inspired by the architecture of ancient Rome and 16th century Italy while on his Grand Tour.  Completed by 1729, the villa echoes classical temple design, but was never conceived as a private residence. Instead it is a bold architectural experiment, a grand pavilion where he could display his art and book collection and entertain friends.

This event has been organised by the London Events Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
