Great Collectors at Burghley House and walk round Stamford

The group will meet at Burghley House, Stamford, for a guided tour specifically looking at the treasures amassed by the 5th and 9th Earls of Exeter during their Grand Tours in the 17th and 18th centuries. Their extravagant purchases included tapestries, marquetry, furniture and Italian paintings. The house itself was built for William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth. After a light lunch throu group meet the experienced Blue Badge guide for a walk round the town. Stamford was the first town in England to create a Conservation Area, thus preserving much of its historical and architectural heritage.

This event has been organised by the Cambridgeshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
