Painting and Dancing on the Riviera

- Talk |
- Saturday, 18 April 2015 - 10:30 until 13:00
The committee is delighted to announce this opportunity to hear a talk by Richard Emerson about these enigmatic characters. He will outline their relationship and interactions with other artists, including Picasso and Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The dancers performance attracted the social, artistic and political elite holidaying on the French Riviera in the decade before WWII. Surely these were the forerunners of the elegance and sophistication that we have, for so long associated with this location?
Richard Emerson studied History of Art at The Courtauld Institute of Art, joining the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland in 1978 where he was Chief Inspector from 1999-2004. He has contributed widely to academic journals, most recently on the friendship between Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret Morris, the dancer and partner of J. D. Fergusson.
This event has been organised by the Strathclyde Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
