- Wednesday, 25 March 2015 - 14:00 until 16:00
The Sussex Committee are delighted that Rebecca Drew, senior guide at the National Gallery in London, has agreed to come and talk about Rembrandt's last years in the wonderful setting of Danny House in Hurstpierpoint.
The end of 2014 and the beginning of 2015 saw two separate major exhibitions of Rembrandt's work, in Budapest and London, at the National Gallery. The London exhibition moving in early February to Amsterdam. Rembrandt’s work was one of the first exhibition screenings to have been shown at cinemas across the country, enabling people who are unable to travel to London or Amsterdam to see a unique selection of his work in high definition, including behind the scenes showing the set up of exhibitions.
Rebecca's lecture will look at the last 19 years of Rembrandt's life during which he arguably painted his finest masterpieces full of love, compassion and huge sensitivity which are in complete contrast to his angry and sometimes defiant self portraits of the period.
After Rebecca's illuminating talk the group will take afternoon tea and cakes made by the wonderful cook at Historic Danny House.
This event has been organised by the Sussex Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
