John Constable and the Making of Masterpieces
- The Mall Galleries |
- Talk |
- Thursday, 16 October 2014 - 18:30 until 20:00
The V&A’s major exhibition The Making of a Master reassesses John Constable’s influences, techniques and legacy as his most famous masterpieces are united with his revolutionary oil sketches: expressive evocations of land, sea and sky that allowed him to transfer the freshness of the outdoors into his exhibition paintings. In this illustrated talk, Susan Owens, former Curator of Paintings at the V&A, discusses how Constable’s ideas evolved in tiny sketch-book pages, full-scale oil sketches and even tracings on glass, and reveals the stories that lie behind some of his best known works.
This event has been organised by the London Events Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
