A great Georgian mansion that originated in the late seventeenth century, Stowe was completed in the neo-classical style in the 1770s. Under the 1st Viscount Cobham, from 1715-49, and his nephew Earl Temple, the house became an active centre of political and philosophical lift for the Whig party.
Over many years both the house and the gardens have been impeccably restored by the Stowe Restoration Trust and the National Trust and has been a public school since 1923. We will be led on a tour of the house in the morning, with an opportunity to visit the gardens independently in the after lunch.
This event has been organised by a local supporter group to help raise money for the Art Fund.
