Cherubs and chantries
- Gloucester Cathedral |
- Study Day |
- Wednesday, 30 April 2014 - 10:00 until 15:45
After the successful visit in 2013 we have arranged another visit to Gloucester Cathedral. A team of cathedral guides will present illustrated lectures and lead you on tours in the Cathedral to examine one of our most famous monuments. You will be given all the basic tools to read monuments you may encounter in any church.
You will discover how simple grave markers developed into elaborate and ostentatious structures with effigies, tomb chests, canopies and architectural frames which displayed not just piety, but status and wealth.
Please note there is a ten minute walk from the nearest car park to the Cathedral and members need to be aware of uneven floors and the ability to climb stairs. Places are limited to early booking is recommended.
This event has been organised by a local supporter group to help raise money for the Art Fund.
